She was a former member of the Fireflies and a member of the Washington Liberation Front.[2] Biography Background and early life Mel was originally a member of the Fireflies in Salt Lake City, Utah, and trained as a medic under Dr. Jerry Anderson, a brilliant surgeon who was considered by his colleagues to be the only person capable of manufacturing a vaccine against the Cordyceps brain infection. During her time with the Fireflies, Mel and Abby had already become close friends, as evidenced by her thanking Abby for recommending that her father teach Mel more complicated medical procedures. The surgeon's death by Joel Miller's hands in April 2034 destroyed any hope the group had of curing the Cordyceps infection and ultimately was one of the leading factors in the Fireflies' disbanding.[2] Mel ended up in a group of ex-Fireflies with Jerry's daughter Abby Anderson, along with Owen Moore, Manny Alvarez, Nora Harris, Jordan, Nick and Leah in search of a new place to call home. They eventually reached Seattle, Washington, and were taken in by the Washington Liberation Front, dubbed by the WLF's leader Isaac Dixon as the "Salt Lake Crew".[2] Mel was made a medic in the WLF's military, and eventually formed a romantic relationship with Owen and became pregnant with his child.[1] When Abby discovered where Joel's brother Tommy Miller was living, Mel was one of the ones who agreed to pursue the lead in hopes of finding Joel and making him pay for what he had done to them.[3] Jackson Abby orders Mel to tourniquet Joel's leg. When the group made it to Jackson, Wyoming, Mel revealed to Owen that she was pregnant with his child, leading Owen to wander from the hideout they had established at the Baldwin mansion. Mel was at the mansion when Abby brought Joel and his brother Tommy back to the fortified location where they had set up camp. She watched as Abby viciously beat Joel to death, and was one of several who argued that they should kill Ellie, as well, to tie up loose ends. Owen, however, talked them down, making the point that they would be no better than Joel if they did so. Ironically, while she considered Joel to deserve worse than what he got, Mel was horrified by the cruelty that she witnessed and regretted taking part in the act, as well as being disturbed by what Abby was capable of. She and the rest of the group returned to Seattle without further complications. However, Mel distanced herself from Abby afterward, and Owen became quiet and withdrawn, eventually deciding that he wanted nothing more to do with the WLF or their war against the Seraphites. Seattle Mel was assigned with Abby and Manny to head out to the forward operating base FOB past the stadium, cleared for duty despite being in the late stages of pregnancy. While feelings were strained between the two following Jackson, they exchanged pleasantries for a bit. Mel confessed that she felt Owen had been avoiding her recently, and asked if he'd said anything about it to Abby. Before Abby could answer, however, their truck was attacked by a Seraphite hunting party, sending them crashing into an abandoned home improvement store. Forced to fight their way past the infected and the Seraphites, they were cornered at a gas station but were rescued by a patrol of Wolves who killed the remaining assailants and took them to the FOB. Having been shot in the shoulder during the skirmish, Mel was taken to the medical facilities to be stitched up. There, she met up with Nora. Later, Mel was harshly interrogated by Isaac on Owen's whereabouts following Danny's death and Abby's disappearance, though she did not reveal anything.[2] Mel later met up with Abby at the aquarium, where Abby asked her to treat Yara's broken arm. Mel determined that Yara's arm was beyond saving, and sent Abby out with Lev to get supplies to amputate it safely. Following their return, Mel surgically amputated Yara's broken limb and stitched up the wound, saving Yara's life.[3] The next day, she told Abby that she planned to leave with Owen and the others for Santa Barbara, California, provided that Abby didn't come with them, believing that Abby's actions were merely an attempt to regain Owen's favor and interfere with her relationship. When Lev ran away, Mel questioned Abby's motives, but Abby insisted that she was trying to do the right thing and convinced Owen to stay with Mel and finish repairs on their sailboat. While they were gone, Ellie broke into the aquarium and killed Alice, their guard dog, and snuck up on Mel and Owen arguing over whether or not to pursue Abby to the Seraphites' island. As Mel began to leave, the couple were caught off-guard by Ellie. Holding them at gunpoint, she ordered Mel to point to Abby's location on a map, despite Owen's pleas for her not to as he believed Ellie would kill them once she had what she wanted. Though Mel initially agreed, she was slow to act, causing Ellie to become angry and point the gun at her. Owen leapt at Ellie to grab the gun, but she shot him in the chest. Mel drew her knife and attempted to kill Ellie, but was overpowered and stabbed in the neck. Ellie approached Owen, who explained with his dying breath that Mel was pregnant. Ellie was horrified to discover that the woman she had just killed was far along with a child. Tommy and Jesse arrived and took the shaken Ellie away from the aquarium.[4] Abby and Lev found Mel and Owen's bodies when they returned to the aquarium. Deeply horrified by their deaths, Abby broke down, but Lev found and gave her the map that Ellie had used in her failed interrogation, which also marked where their base was. The two left to avenge their fallen friends.[5] Personality and traits Mel was a strong-headed but caring individual, showing that she was as capable as any other WLF member. She often put her medical expertise to use to help others, especially her friends.[2] However, her independent nature and stubbornness were dangerous to her well-being. She endangered herself and her unborn child by traveling alone to the aquarium, through areas of the city not controlled by the WLF.[2] Mel's approach to violence was strictly needs-based, displayed in how she would only kill in self-defense, like when Ellie attacked her and Owen.[4] She only considered killing others in circumstances she feared would later threaten her safety, revealed in how she agreed that leaving Tommy and Ellie alive was too great a risk.[1] She was opposed to torture, being the only member of the group visibly perturbed by Abby's brutality and the only member to admit regret taking part in Joel's murder despite believing his brutal death was more than justified.[2] Mel was among the more compassionate members of Abby's group, evident in how she had a sense of pity for her enemies, especially children.[3] Gallery Mel's full body Art of Mel. Businesses are racing to develop new technologies and experimental supply chain models to increase parcel volume, expedite deliveries, and delight the challenge of final mile delivery continues to be a massive pain point for you work in the transportation and logistics industry? Get business insights on the latest tech innovations, market trends, and your competitors with data-driven research. As consumers increasingly turn to ecommerce for all their shopping needs, speedy fulfillment and distribution isn’t just a “nice to have”—it’s the expectation of every online shopping experience. And if logistics companies and their retail partners want a shot at thwarting the ever-looming threat of Amazon Prime, it needs to be a priority. As a result, businesses have begun racing to develop new technologies and experimental supply chain models to increase parcel volume, expedite deliveries, and delight customers — all while trying to cut costs. Unfortunately, one of their biggest expenses and challenges is same-day, final mile delivery. What is last mile delivery? In a product’s journey from warehouse shelf, to the back of a truck, to a customer doorstep, the “last mile” of delivery is the final step of the process — the point at which the package finally arrives at the buyer’s door. In addition to being a key to customer satisfaction, last mile delivery is both the most expensive and time-consuming part of the shipping process. What is the last mile problem? If you’ve ever tracked a package in real time online and saw that it was “out for delivery” for what felt like forever, you already understand that the last mile problem is inefficiency. That’s because the final leg of shipment typically involves multiple stops with low drop sizes. In rural areas, delivery points along a particular route could be several miles apart, with only one or two packages getting dropped off at each one. In cities, the outlook isn’t much better; what urban areas make up for in stop proximity is quickly negated by the near constant delays of traffic congestion. The costs and inefficiencies of the last mile problem have only been further compounded by the continuous rise of ecommerce in US retail sales, which has dramatically increased the number of parcels delivered each day, as well as raised customer expectations to include not just fast, but also free, delivery. What are the costs of last mile delivery? As a share of the total cost of shipping, last mile delivery costs are substantial—comprising 53% overall. And with the growing ubiquitousness of “free shipping,” customers are less willing to foot a delivery fee, forcing retailers and logistics partners to shoulder the cost. As such, it’s become the first place they’re looking to implement new technologies and drive process improvements. Like what you’re reading? Technology solutions to improve last mile logistics With the rise of the gig economy, many consumers are already familiar with the concept of crowdsourcing local services through digital platforms like Uber, Airbnb, and Postmates. Location-based crowdsourcing allows consumers to open a mobile app to hail a ride, book a place to stay, order coffee to the office, hire a handyman to mount a TV, send flowers to that special someone, or even schedule takeout to arrive just as they’re walking through their apartment door. Postmates Rafael Henrique/SOPA The crowdsourcing model has been prevalent in transportation, hospitality, and food delivery for some time now, and retailers are eyeing its low startup costs, asset-light operations, and improved customer experience to ease their last mile delivery woes. With crowdsource technology, retailers, logistics partners, and consumers can connect directly with local, non-professional couriers who use their own transportation to make deliveries. Companies can get their online orders to customers faster, and customers can get their items when and where they want them. The freedom to make on-demand and scheduled deliveries also ensures that customers are home at the time of delivery—eliminating the need for a second or third attempt. And with the ongoing integration and enhancement of automation across industries, it’s likely we’ll start seeing delivery robots, drones, and self-driving vehicles making many of these drop-offs in the not-so-far future. You will have to fight off a few guys who jump onto your horse, but keep riding forward to get away from the house you are using as a base. Eventually, you will end up back on foot. Sorry horsie. Run into the cabin ahead of you, and loot the bedrooms here. When you move into the front of the cabin, you start to hear Hunters searching for you. Time to drop into stealth mode. Make good use of the arrows in this front room for a ranged stealth kill. Take out the guards right outside the house, then sneak out the door. There are guards all over the camp here, so watch where you go. Firefly Pendant 26 Head over to the gazebo here to snag a collectable Firefly Pendant, then move through the cabins. There's some loot here as well as plenty of cover. There seems to be a decent group of guys by the restrooms, so watch out for that hotspot. You eventually need to make it to the stairs at the far end of the area. Once up here, you will have to inch your way across the broken walkway to the left, then continue forward down the cliffside trail. advertisementYou drop down a bit of a drop, then crawl through a pipe. You come into a clearing, so head upstairs. Comic 11 Negentropy On the park bench is a collectable Comic to grab. Now crawl through the second pipe ahead of you. It's blocked! Head back out and grab the dumpster behind the cage. Pull it out, and then head back through the pipe. You come up on the main resort building. You can see the exit off in the distance, but don't start running for it yet. Hunters start coming out now, looking for you. Take them out, then climb on a box to drop down into the main building. You aren't alone in here, so make sure to stay as stealthy as possible. advertisementThis is a big building, but you are limited to only the downstairs. Make your way through the lobby until you get to the front entrance. Head out the door with the Exit sign above it. Well, THAT didn't go according to plan. You're back as Joel now, so walk out of the basement you are in. Head outside and down the road. Sadly, you cannot loot any of these houses. Head forward until you stumble across some Hunters. Take a few out, and they retreat to the back yard. Head into the back yard and into the house to find some supplies. Hop out the living room window and out to the street, and you get stopped. Watch what happens here, because it is INTENSE. You are now back as Ellie outside in a blizzard. Run forward away from the man shooting at you. You see a door ahead of you. Blocked. Now try the door next to the gate. You're inside again. Move the cart in your way to crawl under the boards into the next room. You're now in the front of a pet store. You can hear Hunters outside, so stay behind cover. advertisementEventually, one enemy will enter the store. Take him out to get his gun. Make your way across the street, not down the street where everyone is heading. Once in an alley, keep going down until you see a lot of mail trucks. Take out a few guards here, then head up the stairs. Move forward and you'll see a barrel with a fire in it. Directly to the left is a small hole you can crouch through. Head through here, and around to a pick-up truck. There may be another Hunter here, so watch out. Continue forward through the slashed open fence. Stay along the left side of the street here until you get to an alley. There are two ways into the building here, so head in whichever way will not get you noticed by the two Hunters inside. Take them out silently, then head out the arcade's front door. There are plenty more guards outside, so make sure to move from cover to cover. If you get spotted, run back to the gate blocking the end of the street, and hide. The Hunters cannot see very well through the snow. Eventually as you move forward down the street, you'll spot a building with a burning trash can here. Move past this to a street on the left. Follow the street now, until you get to another gate blocking the way. Jump up onto a dumpster, and then through the cracked open window. advertisementYou are now in a kitchen of some sort. It doesn't look like anyone is here or in the restaurant either. Make your way to the front door, and head outside. Ohhhh boy, our friend is back. You need to hide from him, and sneak up on him to get the keys back. Also, as an added difficulty, he does not go down in one hit. After the first hit you land, he breaks out the machete, so now if you get hit once, you are dead. Keep after him, but without him seeing. Watch out for the smashed plates on the ground, as he will hear if you step on them. Once you land three hits, you both go down. The Last of Us 2 Guide All Collectibles The Last of Us 2 has an incredible 266 collectibles for you to find. You can view any collectibles you've discovered by pushing the touchpad when you're in-game, and using the R1 button to browse to the collectibles sub-section. Artefacts are generally written notes and other pieces of lore-related ephemera you'll find in the world. They're typically represented by an icon showing a sheet of paper, signifying that they can be collected. Trading Cards function similarly to Artefacts, though they have their own symbol within the world and are categorised separately in Ellie's backpack. They are Ellie's main form of collectible. Coins are similar to Trading Cards, however they represent Abby's primary form of collectible. They're represented in the world by two overlapping pennies. Journal Entries are generally added automatically to Ellie's notepad, however there are a handful of moments where you'll need to interact with parts of the world in order to ensure she scribbles her thoughts down. These are considered one of the game's collectible types. Workbenches are where you can upgrade your weapons using spare parts that you scavenge from the world. You simply need to look at these in order to "collect" them, however we recommend interacting with them just to ensure they get added to your checklist. You're also probably going to want to upgrade your weapons each time you find one anyway. Safes are storage units that contain key valuable items, but you'll need to know the correct safe code combination in order to open them. Typically, the clues are written in Artefacts that you'll find nearby, but be prepared to use both the environment and your ol' grey matter in order to solve the puzzles. The Last of Us 2 has a total of 11 acts, divided into 45 chapters, although not all of them have collectbiles in them. The Last of Us 2 FAQ - Everything You Need to Know The Last of Us 2 Full Story Recap The Last of Us 2 Guide Tips and Tricks for Beginners The Last of Us 2’s wide-array of difficulty options mean you shouldn’t have too much trouble finishing the game, regardless of your ability. However, there are some universal tips and tricks that we’d recommend to all players. Read through these carefully to ensure you’re prepared. Always Reload and Craft During Downtime You should endeavour to reload and craft any materials during moments of downtime, as these will ensure you’re always prepared for conflict. There are moments during The Last of Us 2 where you’ll be ambushed by Clickers or rival factions, and sometimes these encounters can catch you off guard. Keep your weapon magazines as full as possible and your backpack well supplied with key items, such as health packs and explosives. You’ll regret not utilising these periods of peace effectively if you don’t. Never Face Danger Head On Under no circumstances should you ever run towards danger, as you’ll be taken out immediately. Rival humans’ aim will improve when you run towards them, and the stopping power of their weapons means you’ll struggle to make meaningful progress anyway. It’s better to run away from potential conflict; use stealth to get the jump on your enemies, saving valuable resources and utilising the element of surprise to your advantage. Ensure you’re always moving, but try to attack enemies from behind or from the side. Similar rules apply to Clickers, although discretion should be your main focus when fighting the infected, so try to restrict the use of your firearms to emergencies only – at least until you’ve thinned their numbers. Crouch to Dampen Your Footsteps If you want to remain quiet, then you’re going to want to crouch as much as possible. Delicately pushing the thumb stick while in a crunched position will ensure you’re virtually silent, but remember you can also go prone if you need to hide either under cars or in tall grass. Remember, concealing yourself in foliage doesn’t make you invincible like in other games, but you’re much more difficult to spot and this can buy you time if you need to use health kits or take a breather for a few minutes. Use Distractions to Your Advantage Bottles and bricks are great for smashing glass and stunning enemies, but they can also be used to push and pull enemies around. Use these items to create distractions and diversions, or lure infected into areas where there are human foes. If you can successfully pit Clickers against gun-wielding gangs, then you can significantly thin their numbers, reducing the amount of resources you’ll require to finish them off entirely. You Don’t Always Have to Engage Fighting is fun albeit harrowing in The Last of Us 2, but one tip is that you don’t always have to attack. If your resources are low and your energy levels are depleted, consider using stealth to slip past your enemies undetected. While there are some encounters where you’ll have no option but to fight, many others can be approached completely clandestine, and if you’re successful you’ll never have to use a single bullet. If you struggle at stealth then remember that you can craft silencers for your pistols, allowing you to pick off select enemies without attracting any attention. A Collectibles Tracker Can Be Enabled If you’re playing through The Last of Us 2 on New Game + and you’re searching for any outstanding collectibles, it’s worth switching on the Collectibles Tracker in the Settings menu. This allows you to keep track of which collectibles you’ve found in previous runs, so you know which ones you need in order to unlock that all-important Platinum Trophy. And that brings our The Last of Us 2 guide to a conclusion. Hopefully, this has helped you to get the most out of Naughty Dog’s touching post-apocalyptic tale. If you have any further tips and tricks to share, please post them in the comments section below.
I've been reluctant to post this. I recorded my reaction when I saw the accessibility settings in TheLastofUsPartII for the first time thinking it would be a fun video for posterity. I
